Mandi, July 9

This year, the Kullu district administration has decided that people below 18 years and above 60 years will not be allowed to take part in the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra in Kullu district, which will begin on July 11. A person, who is unwell, will not be allowed too.

The move comes in view of public safety as it is a 32-km (one side) arduous trek from Jaon village to the Shrikhand top, which is at approximately 18,570 ft, where a 72-foot-high rock lingam is situated. The journey begins from Jaon and after 3 km of trek, one reaches Singhaad, the first base camp.

Kullu Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Garg said people were requested to cooperate with the district administration to avoid any untoward incident during the yatra. The yatra will conclude on July 24.

“The base camps for the yatra have been set up at Singhaad, Thachru, Kunsha, Bhimdwari and Parvatibagh. At each camp, the administration has deployed medical, rescue and police teams under a sector magistrate for the safety of devotees. About 20 health workers, 30 policemen and 40 members are deployed for rescue purposes at all base camps,” he said.

“It is necessary to register for the journey which can be done online or offline. The link https://shrikhandyatra.hp.gov.in/ for online registration is available 24 hours a day for which the registration fee will be Rs 200. Offline registration can be done at the first base camp at Sinhgad from 5 am to 7 pm,” he added.

“The registration fee will not be refunded in case of cancellation of plan or if the person is found unwell in the medical check-up at the Sinhgaad base camp,” said the DC. Every year, a large number of devotees from across the nation take part in this yatra.
