35 apply for Congress ticket in 4 Lok Sabha constituencies in Himachal

As many as 35 individuals have sought ticket from the Congress to contest from four parliamentary constituencies of the state in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Out of the total 35 aspirants, 12 have applied for the ticket from Kangra constituency, two for Mandi constituency, five from Hamirpur and 15 for Shimla parliamentary constituency. The state Congress had sought applications for the ticket from the interested candidates till February 15.

All these applications will be scrutinised by the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee. However, it’s not necessary that the final candidate will be selected from among these 35 aspirants.

The maximum response has come from Shimla parliamentary constituency with former MLA Sohan and Amit Nanda, president of the party’s Scheduled Caste department, being among the prominent aspirants. Kaushal Mungta from Jubbal and Yashpal Tanaik from Chopal are among other candidates.

For Mandi constituency, only Gyanchand Thakur of Jogindernagar and Vijendra Negi from Kinnaur district have applied for ticket. For Kangra, state Congress committee treasurer Rajesh Sharma is among the ticket seekers.

For Hamirpur constituency, two army personnel, Lt Colonel DS Patial and Captain Atul Sharma, are among the five aspirants for the tickets for the upcoming elections.
