The ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute of India (CPRI) recently hosted a farmer’s day programme in Kufri, Shimla district, where around 40 farmers learned about best practices for maintaining cleanliness in their fields and farming-related works. This programme is a part of the Swacchtta Pakhwara initiative, which aims to educate farmers about cleanliness in their fields through various institutes and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

The programme featured experts like Dr Ashwani Sharma, in-charge of the Kufri Unit of ICAR-CPRI, Shimla, who shared practical solutions and best practices for maintaining cleanliness in agricultural environments. Other notable speakers included Santosh Kumar, nodal officer for cleanliness programmes, and technical officers Ajit Singh and Kedar.

This initiative is not the first time ICAR-CPRI has worked to empower local farmers. Previously, they organised a front-line demonstration programme in Leh district, Ladakh, to showcase improved potato varieties and promote sustainable agricultural production among tribal farmers. They have also conducted training and field demonstrations on drip irrigation technology for potato cultivation in Shimla district, benefiting local farmers.
