As many as 5,000 street vendors in 30 towns have been trained in solid waste management, and health and hygiene under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana — National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), said Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, while reviewing the progress of the DAY-NULM and the Mukhya Mantri Shahri Ajeevika Guarantee Yojana (MMSAGY) schemes.
The minister said Himachal Pradesh had been achieving its targets under the scheme and efforts were on to bring more people under its ambit. During 2020-21, Rs 1.54 crore had been spent under the scheme and Rs 3.64 crore was still unspent.
He said that 324 self-help groups (SHGs) had been formed in 2020-21 against the target of 200. The scheme also worked as a support system for urban street vendors and 4,054 identity cards had been issued to vendors, besides 3,798 certificates. As per a survey, 5,790 street vendors had been identified in 54 urban local bodies, he stated.
Bhardwaj said that the Mukhya Mantri Shahri Ajeevika Guarantee Yojana, launched by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur this year, aimed at providing guaranteed employment in urban areas.
Under the scheme, 120 days job guarantee had been given to the residents of urban local bodies within 15 days of the issuance of job cards, failing which Rs 75 per day would be paid as unemployment allowance.
