52,711 receiving social security pension in Hamirpur: MLA

Presiding over the meeting of District Welfare Committee of social justice and empowerment department, MLA Suresh Kumar said 52,711 people were getting social security pension in the district under various social security schemes. He added that the department was working for the prosperity, welfare and empowerment of weaker sections of society.

He said that government could provide various benefits through this department to people. In the current fiscal year, Rs 71.23 crore was allocated to the district, out of which about Rs 69 crore was utilised, he said.

Kumar also said that 52,711 eligible people in the district are getting social security pension and no pension case is pending. He directed officials to complete all the formalities regarding the applications of the beneficiaries of Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi, which are pending in the gram panchayats and send them to the district welfare office.

The MLA said that a total of Rs. 1.48 crore was sanctioned for the construction of houses for 99 families of SC/ST and OBC categories in the district. He directed the district welfare officer to share the list of other pending cases of house construction with the Rural Development Department so that these applicants could benefit from the PM Awas Yojana. He said that the Chief Minister had made a special provision of Rs 3 lakh for house construction for widows and single women. He added that only 19 applications were received for this in the district so far. He suggested officers to give wide publicity to the scheme to benefit needy women.

Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh, ADM Rahul Chauhan, SDMs of all sub-divisions and officers of DRDA, welfare department were also present on the occasion.
