636 awarded degrees at IIT-Mandi convocation
A total of 636 graduates across various disciplines were awarded degrees at the 12th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi. Of these, 463 were male and 173 female, reflecting a notable increase in female representation from 23.36 per cent in 2023 to 27.2 per cent in 2024.
Shashwat Gupta received the President of India Gold Medal for achieving the highest CGPA among undergraduate students, while Jain Hiya Sudhir and Devanshu Sajwan were also recognised for their outstanding performances.
Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Electronics Limited, was the chief guest. Joining him as guests of honour were Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar; Narendra Kumar Arya, Director of ER & IPR at DRDO; and Krishna Ika, CEO & Chairman of Brainwave Science.
In his address, Manoj Jain praised IIT-Mandi for carving a niche in professional education and urged the graduates to contribute to India’s aspirations for development.
Lt Gen Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon (retd), Board of Governor, IIT-Mandi, emphasised the institute’s commitment to nurturing future leaders, highlighting the recent inauguration of the Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Resilience (C3DAR), aimed at addressing the national priorities in disaster management and sustainable development.
Prof Laxmidhar Behera, Director of IIT-Mandi, congratulated the graduates and underscored the Institute’s dedication to academic excellence and its role in shaping impactful alumni. He announced ongoing infrastructure development and new academic programs designed to further enhance the educational experience at IIT-Mandi.
The convocation not only celebrated the accomplishments of its graduates, but also reinforced IIT-Mandi’s commitment to diversity, sustainability and cutting-edge research.
