7 MBBS students suspended, fined on ragging charge

Dr Rajiv Tuli, Principal, Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College, Nahan, today suspended seven MBBS second-year students of the 2023 batch on an anonymous complaint regarding ragging.

The complaint, received on November 26, prompted an investigation by the institutional anti-ragging committee. The inquiry revealed that the accused students had engaged in an inappropriate behaviour towards their juniors, including coercing them into standing for extended periods at a private residence, using an abusive language and subjecting them to unnatural punishments. However, no physical harm was inflicted on the juniors, as per the inquiry findings.

Based on the findings, the institutional investigation committee imposed strict penalties on the accused students. They have been suspended from the medical college for three months and barred from representing the institution in any regional, national or international cultural or sports events for one year. Additionally, each student has been fined Rs 75,000.

Dr Tuli emphasised the college’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, stating, “Such actions undermine the dignity and safety of our students. The institution is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for everyone.”
