The Public Works Department has announced the repair and upgrade of seven key rural roads in Rampur, Himachal Pradesh, ahead of the upcoming apple season. With an allocated budget of approximately Rs 4 crore, the long-overdue work is expected to provide a major boost to the local economy and ease transportation woes for villagers.

According to Executive Engineer SK Negi, the roads selected for repairs include Bhadrash-Brandli, Rampur-Taklech-Sungri, Gaura-Mashnu, Jeori-Sarahan, Khanog-Surdbangla, Raibahali, and Kyav-Ganvi. These roads, which serve as crucial links for local farmers during the apple harvest, have been in poor condition for years, especially during monsoon months.

Negi added that tenders have been floated for most of the roads and work has already been allotted to contractors. “Villagers have been demanding repairs for a long time. Now, with funding in place, we are ready to start work to ensure the roads are ready before the peak apple transport period,” he said.

The road repairs are expected to greatly benefit the residents of these rural areas by improving connectivity, reducing transportation costs, and minimising post-harvest losses.
