7 yrs of healing, learning: Mandi's Atal Medical and Research University marks foundation day with zeal

The Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU), located in Nerchowk, Mandi district, celebrated its 7th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm at Dhanotu under the Sundernagar sub-division. The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Surender Kashyap.

A key highlight of the celebration was the recognition of outstanding service. Deshraj, Junior Office Assistant (IT), was honoured with the title of ‘Best Employee of the Year’. The event also featured vibrant cultural performances, showcasing the talents of university students and staff.

In his address, Prof Kashyap reflected on the university’s journey and its pivotal role in medical education. Established under the Himachal Pradesh University of Health Sciences Act, 2017, AMRU facilitates medical examinations, college affiliations, and academic and administrative operations related to health sciences.The university currently oversees admissions, examinations, and affiliations for programmes, including MBBS, BAMS, BDS, BHMS, MD/MS, BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing, and various paramedical courses.

Prof Kashyap highlighted AMRU’s vital contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and its ongoing digital transformation, with most operations now paperless. He also announced plans to establish a research center, teacher training center, and expand employment opportunities.

Encouraging staff to work with dedication, he stated, “If we treat this university as our own, it will surely progress and reach new heights.” On women empowerment, he emphasized the need for equal participation and urged women to recognize their potential.

Earlier, Registrar Girish Sumra welcomed guests and noted this was the university’s first formal Foundation Day celebration. The event was attended by several dignitaries, faculty, and staff.
