747 roads still closed, highest 227 in Kullu; rain to continue till September 14

At least 747 roads, including three National Highways, are still closed for vehicular traffic in the state, while 959 power transformers have been damaged due to continuous heavy rain.

As per the State Emergency Operation Centre, of the total 747 roads closed in the state, the highest number of 227 roads, including the National Highway-3 and the National Highway-305, are blocked in Kullu, followed by Mandi (183), Shimla (137), Kangra (44), Chamba (42), Sirmaur (39), Una (25, including National Highway-70), Bilaspur and Solan (18 each), Lahaul and Spiti (9), Kinnaur (4) and Hamirpur (3).

Similarly, of the 959 power transformers damaged in the state, Kullu has the highest number of 722 disrupted transformers, followed by Mandi (88), Shimla (83), Chamba (52), Lahaul and Spiti (11) and Solan (3), leaving many areas of these districts without electricity. Besides, 472 water supply schemes have suffered damage, the highest number of 176 projects in Kangra, followed by Shimla (123), Kullu (63), Mandi (57), Chamba (30), Sirmaur (12), Solan (6), Bilaspur (3) and Hamirpur (2).

Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall continued in many parts of the state during the past 24 hours. Mandi received the highest 41 mm of rainf, followed by Nahan (35 mm), Paonta Sahib (30.8 mm), Narkanda (24.5 mm), Sarahan in Shimla (20.5 mm), Dhaula Kuan (16.5 mm), Manali (12 mm), Sundernagar (8.5 mm), Keylong (3 mm) and Shimla (1.6 mm).

As per the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall will continue in isolated places of the state till September 14. During this period, the maximum temperatures are very likely to rise by 2°C to 4°C across the state, while the minimum temperatures will remain normal.
