Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, described the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School Scheme as one of the state’s most ambitious educational initiatives. He said land has been selected for the schools in each of the district’s constituencies and the respective departments are working diligently to complete the necessary formalities for the project’s swift implementation.

“The Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School Scheme is designed to offer a modern and holistic educational experience to students. Alongside the construction of these schools, we are ensuring that all administrative procedures are completed promptly,” said Kashyap.

He said the sites selected for the school were: Near Bardash, close to the Radisson Hotel in Shimla Urban constituency; At Jaloog in Shimla Rural constituency; Saraswati Nagar in Jubbal-Kotkhai constituency; Gajedi in Theog constituency; On Barada Road near Palkan in Rohru constituency; At Bodna in Chopal constituency; Chamiyana in Kasumpti constituency; Shingla in Rampur constituency.

State-of-the-art facilities

The Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools would be equipped with modern infrastructure, designed to offer a world-class education to students. These schools would feature high-tech smart classrooms, playgrounds, indoor stadiums, racing tracks, swimming pools and other amenities aimed at fostering both academic and extracurricular excellence.

Each school will cover an area of 50 bighas, ensuring ample space for academic and recreational activities. The schools would also offer hostel facilities for students, while those who prefer to commute daily will also be admitted as day scholars.

Vision for the future

Lekh Ram, Deputy Director of Higher Education, said once the land selection process was complete, the department would create detailed layouts for each school, which would then be uploaded to the Parivesh portal. The planning and development process is expected to move ahead swiftly.

“The Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools will be unique institutions that combine advanced infrastructure with a focus on quality education,” said Ram. “The state government is committed to providing state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that these schools stand as models of modern education in Himachal Pradesh.”

With these eight schools, the state government hopes to create a robust educational framework that benefits students across the Shimla district, providing them with a world-class learning environment.
