96 to vote in Pong island polling station

NURPUR, OCTOBER 27

The Sath Kuthera polling station in the Pong reservoir’s island is the main attraction in Fatehpur.

The station has been set up on the temple premises of the village for 96 voters. As many as 82 voters in the last Assembly elections and 81 in the last Lok Sabha elections cast their votes.

The polling party will leave for the village tomorrow and a fishing boat has been requisitioned for the purpose.

The Kangra DC and the Fatehpur SDM, who is also the returning officer, have visited the polling booth and also motivated voters.

According to SDM Ankush Sharma, in the Fatehpur byelection, 87,222 registered voters can cast their votes. “They comprise 43,158 men and 42,528 women. The Election Commission has set up 111 polling stations and keeping in view the Covid protocol, 30 auxiliary stations have also been established,” he said. The EC has identified 33 sensitive and five hyper-sensitive polling stations.

In the byelection, 371 — 264 aged and 107 physically challenged voters — have been allowed to vote through postal ballots.
