Raising slogans against the government’s drive to close educational institutions, activists also burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister outside the college campus entrance gate.

Later, protesters marched to the office of the SDM at the Mini Secretariat and submitted a memorandum for the Chief Minister, while demanding that closing of educational institutions should be stopped.

In the memorandum, the ABVP also raised demands, including restoration of elections of the Student Central Association (SCA) in government colleges, to start recruitment process for filling vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff in educational institutions, implementation of the New Education Policy-2020 in letter and spirit and revoking government’s decision of guest teacher recruitment.

The ABVP also demanded regular appointments of Vice Chancellors in the Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, and Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur, without any further delay.

Before submitting memorandum, Rana, while addressing college students condemned the state government for merging or closing 1,094 schools with low enrolment and recent shortlisting of 21 government colleges and 100 senior secondary schools across the state with low enrolment.
