ABVP calls for ‘autonomy’ for HPU
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad unit of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) launched a signature campaign on Monday calling for restoration of autonomy for the university. The ABVP alleged that amendment to Sections 21 and 28, University Act, 1970, was causing a lot of hindrances in the autonomous functioning of the university. The ABVP claimed that the amendments were done to curtail the powers of university’s executive council and Vice-Chancellor. As a result, the university administration fails to take decisions as warranted by arising situations, and it is proving to be a hindrance in several development projects of the university, it said.
