ABVP hails order putting on hold course approvals

The Himachal unit of the ABVP has hailed the decision of the Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission (HPPEIRC) to put on hold the approval of courses of four private universities for the academic year 2020-21.

The order passed by the education regulator imply that these institutions, namely Manav Bharti University, Indus International University, Arni University and APG Shimla University would not be permitted to make admissions for the 2020-21 session, till further orders.

The commission took a serious view of the repeated gross violations of the provisions of the parent Act of the university as well as the HPPEIRC Act by some private universities.

The HPPEIRC said in its order that inquiries had not been completed and these universities had not been absolved of charges, which are of serious nature, affecting the academic activities in these institutions.

Meanwhile, APG Shimla University objected to the order passed by the Commission. It said that the Commission was biased against the university. “The order of the Commission against APG Shimla Univeristy is illegal, arbitrary and passed by the lone member, a day before demitting office,” said Vice-Chancellor Romesh Chowdhary. He sought the intervention of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur in the matter and demanded action against the Commission member for the alleged misuse of powers.
