The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will stage a massive protest in Dharamsala against the state government on December 3 to draw attention to various student-related demands.

The ABVP has demanded the state government to restore Student Central Association (SCA) elections, to expand the jurisdiction of Sardar Patel University (SPU), Mandi, to appoint permanent Vice-Chancellors at CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh Technical University, Hamirpur, and in Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni,. The student body will also be demanding the government to fully implement the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, to strengthen the evaluation processes in Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and SPU, to provide regular employment to the youth and to take action against the deteriorating law and order condition and rising drug menace in the state.

Bhawani Thakur, an ABVP activist, said students across the state were continuously struggling with various issues, but the government had shown no sensitivity towards these concerns. “A leadership vacuum in universities, collapsing basic infrastructure, incomplete evaluation processes, false claims of employment and the tendency to turn schools and colleges into political laboratories have put the future of students at risk,” she said.

“The ABVP believes that a strong political will and effective action are required to improve the education system in the state. As the state government is ignoring these issues, the ABVP has decided to take the democratic route by staging this protest to ensure that the government hears the voice of students,” she added.
