Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Amit Mehra said that a common tuberculosis (TB) patient was being provided an amount of Rs 500 every month for nutrition during the treatment period, while for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) patient, the amount was Rs 1,500, which was transferred directly to the patient’s bank account. A provision of special incentive amount had also been made for ASHA workers for identification and testing of patients.

Presiding over a review meeting of District Level Tuberculosis Eradication Committee, District TB Forum and District Level Consultative Committee related to HIV-AIDS here, the ADM said it was the collective responsibility of all to ensure that HIV-infected persons do not face discrimination in society.

The ADM said, financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month is provided to HIV-infected persons. He added that there was a provision of financial assistance of Rs 300 to 800 per month for the children of HIV-infected parents till the age of 18 years.

He said 318 Nikshay Mitras were registered in the district and were providing nutrition to around 430 TB patients. He urged people of the district to become Nikshya Mitras so that all panchayats of the district could be made TB-free.

Mehra said that under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan of the Union Health Ministry, active participation of representatives of panchayati raj institutions and NGOs must be ensured for eradication of TB.
