Agnihotri stresses on need to promote traditional sports

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri today stressed on the need to promote traditional sports and games. Speaking at the closing ceremony of ‘Chinj’ locally called as ‘Dangal’, at Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Dulehar village of Haroli sub division last night, he said traditional wrestling games reflected on our rich traditions where the society witnessed discipline, courage and competitive spirit by the local youth.

The competition, organised by the Dulehar Dangal Committee, draws a formidable crowd every year and wrestlers from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana come to participate.

Speaking on the occasion, the Dy Chief Minister said sports instilled confidence in an individual and kept the body and mind fit and strong. Besides, sports and generated competitiveness, team spirit and discipline. He said the state government was making all efforts to create fresh infrastructure for the development of sports and sports persons.

Agnihotri called upon the youth to keep away from drugs and take to sports. He honoured Hussain Irani and Bhupinder Ajnala, the winner and runners up, respectively, of the Dangal championship. Later, he honoured the under-19 boys team of the Dulehar government senior secondary school which won the district level Under-19 school Handball championships recently.
