Ajmer’s Mayo College clinches victory at alumni cricket meet

Mayo College, Ajmer, won the ninth edition of the Alumni Cricket Bash (ACB), hosted by the Old Sanawarian Society (OSS) — the over-hundred year old alumni association of Lawrence School, Sanawar.

The winning team beat Scindia School, Gwalior, by 8 runs in a thrilling end played at PCA’s Mullanpur Stadium.

Mayo College won the toss and decided to bat first.

The team scored 154/8 runs with useful contributions from Yograj Singh (50) and Sherry Singh (30).

Ayush Agarwal (3/25) took three wickets from the opposition side.

While chasing the target, Scindia School, once struggling at 94/4, was back in the game with an unbeaten knock of Kartik Chauhan (51). Sherry Singh was awarded the Man of the Match for scoring 30 runs, clinching two wickets and taking three catches.

OSS president Pankaj Sapru felicitated the winner and the runner-up teams.

Earlier, Mayo College, Ajmer, defeated Lawrence School, Sanawar (LSS), by 40 runs in the league match, and made it to the top two on the leader board, entering the finals.

LSS registered two wins in four matches.

LSS’s Sangram Singh scored 165 runs in four matches while Apurva Lakhia made it to the top seven by taking six wickets in three matches.

Sherry Singh of Mayo College was awarded with Player of the Tournament and Best Batter while Kartik Chauhan of Scindia School bagged the Best Bowler and Abhay Khanna of Scindia School was entitled with the Best Fielder of the tournament.

Dinesh Reddy of Doon School was given the title of Best Wicketkeeper.

Apart from those from the host school, alumni from Scindia School, Gwalior; Mayo College, Ajmer; Daly College, Indore; and Doon School, Dehradun, participated in the three-day tournament.
