Amidst criticism, the state government has withdrawn the notifications issued on Monday for the payment of arrears on account of revision of pay scales with effect from 2016. The government has withdrawn two other notifications as well that pertained to the arrears of pensioners. The employees were taken aback by the formula devised by the government to pay the arrears.

They claimed that it would take over 30 years for any employee to get his arrear if it was disbursed as per the formula devised by the government. “If the outstanding amount of the revised pay scale is given at 3 per cent annual rate, the entire payment will take 33 years,” the employees claimed.

The CPM also slammed the government for issuing these notifications. “Several employees will not be able to receive their arrears in their lifetime if it is disbursed in the installments proposed in the notifications. The government should see who is advising it in making such schemes,” said Onkar Shad, CPM’s state secretary.
