The Una administration has constituted panchayat-level committees to counter the menace of drug abuse in all 245 panchayats of the district. Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal today presided over a meeting of the committee members from 10 panchayats, which have been identified as most sensitive to drug abuse.

School principals in the respective panchayats are chairpersons of the committee, while the police head constable from the area will be the member secretary. Other local influential persons, including representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, panchayat secretaries, anganwari workers, Yuvak Mandals and Mahila Mandals will be members of the committee.

The DC explained the roles and responsibilities of the anti-drug abuse committees and directed start working with immediate effect. He said special meetings of gram sabhas will be held in each panchayat of the district to create awareness regarding drug abuse and its bad effects on society.

He said meetings of the committees from 10 most-sensitive panchayats will be held every week and Subdivisional Magistrates concerned will review the working of these committees.
