Anurag Thakur visits flood-hit Dharampur in Mandi

Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Hamirpur, Anurag Thakur, today visited the flood-affected areas of Dharampur Assembly segment in Mandi district to assess extensive damage caused by recent torrential rains and flash floods in the region.

Calling the situation “deeply painful”, Thakur expressed concern over the widespread destruction of life and property. “It is heart-breaking to see the beautiful landscape of Dharampur suffering so much. Natural disasters have caused unimaginable devastation in several parts of state including Dharampur,” he said, adding that the Central Government was closely monitoring the situation and would extend all possible assistance to the victims.

During the visit, Thakur interacted with affected families, offered condolences, and assured them of full support. He also reviewed damage to public infrastructure and private properties, including roads, shops, and local transport services.

Thakur was accompanied by Rajat Thakur, BJP leader from Dharampur, who briefed him about the scale of destruction. Rajat said the disaster struck during the Sair festival on Monday night, turning moments of celebration into grief. “Public and private properties, including HRTC buses, the local bus stand, and numerous shops in low-lying areas, have been severely damaged or destroyed,” he said.

Rajat also informed the MP that two people were still missing in the aftermath of the floods. He urged Thakur to take up the matter with the Central Government for adequate financial relief, emphasising the need for rehabilitation and long-term restoration efforts.

Both leaders agreed that while the local administration had initiated relief work, the situation demands immediate central intervention. They called for the release of emergency funds to restore damaged infrastructure and compensate affected families without any delay.

The visit by Anurag Thakur comes amid heightened concerns about increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events in the region. Experts and political leaders alike are now emphasising on the need for robust disaster preparedness and climate-resilient infrastructure across the state.
