Candidates who have qualified the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) conductor recruitment exam have urged the state government to issue them appointment letters within a week.

The candidates have threatened to go on a hunger strike from July 22 if the government failed to fulfil their demand.

In a joint statement, the candidates said the recruitment process for 360 post of conductors in the HRTC had remained incomplete even after two years, causing resentment among candidates, who have cleared the examination, and their families. They said 357 eligible candidates who had not received the letter had been forced work as labourers. “Due to the state government’s sluggish procedures, we are compelled to work as daily wage labourers to support our families. Many candidates who have crossed 40 years of age are more worried,” they said.

“We request the government to resolve the issue so that the candidates get their due and are able to support their families,” they concluded.

In October 2022, the HRTC had invited applications for the recruitment of 360 conductors. After the dissolution of the Himachal Pradesh State Staff Selection Commission, Hamirpur, the examination was conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, Shimla, in December 2023. The result was announced in March 2024. However, due to the implementation of the poll code, the qualified candidates are yet to receive the appointment letters. — TNS
