Artwork of Auckland House School students on display at Gaiety Theatre

Around 100 artworks crafted by students of Auckland House School are being showcased at the historic Gaiety Theatre in Shimla as part of a three-day exhibition titled ‘The Jacob’s Collection’, inaugurated on Wednesday by Michael A John, Founding Principal, Auckland House School for Boys.

Featuring creations by students from Classes VII to XII (Boys) and Classes IX to XII (Girls), the exhibition presents an impressive spectrum of acrylic, oil, mixed media, charcoal and pen-based artworks. It reflects the school’s commitment to nurturing artistic expression across diverse styles and techniques. With artwork priced between Rs 500 and Rs 10,000, the collection provides art lovers with an accessible way to support emerging young talent.

Speaking at the inauguration, John shared that the title “The Jacob’s Collection” honours Mr Jacob, an early art collector and decor merchant associated with Belvedere. “Known for his passion for aesthetics and artistic preservation, Jacob’s legacy lends historical depth to the exhibition, making it not only a showcase of creativity but also a tribute to Shimla’s cultural lineage,” he said.

He added that the students’ works span bold abstracts, intricate motifs, cultural symbolism, contemporary landscapes and imaginative fusion art — each piece reflecting the dedication, discipline and artistic growth fostered within the institutions.

“It is immensely heartening to witness the creative spirit of our young artists. Their work reflects confidence and a deep understanding of technique. ‘The Jacob’s Collection’ is not just an exhibition — it is a celebration of imagination nurtured through guidance, discipline and opportunity,” John said.

He also expressed appreciation for the faculty: “The creativity displayed by our students today is truly inspiring. I would especially like to acknowledge the art teachers of both Auckland House School and Auckland House School for Boys, whose dedication and encouragement have played a significant role in shaping this exceptional body of work.”
