One person was buried under snow due to an avalanche in Seraj of Mandi district today. He was identified as Padam Singh of Rangcha village, Balichowki, in Mandi.

According to the police, the victim was crossing Shettadhar to visit his maternal home at Chet village.

When he did not arrive at his destination, family members started a search operation and found him dead at Poshuthach.

Meanwhile, the district administration of Lahaul-Spiti has warned people to avoid venturing to the Rohtang tunnel because the area is prone to avalanche.

Deputy Commissioner KK Saroch said the Rohtang tunnel was shut after snowfall.

He stated that the residents had been cut off from the rest of the state since December 12.

He said the Border Roads Organisation had cleared roads for the movement of vehicles in the district and people were advised to take preventive measures while driving in the area. — TNS
