Awareness programme on prevention of sexual harassment at workplace

An awareness camp was organised at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba, under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). The event focused on educating women about the Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act, 2013.

Advocate Kiran Singh addressed the gathering and emphasised that sexual harassment at the workplace is a legal offense. She informed the participants that women can file complaints under the law and seek free legal assistance from the Legal Services Authority. She further explained that if a victim is unable to submit a written complaint herself, a committee member can assist in recording it.

She also elaborated on National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) toll-free helpline number 15100 and the ‘Vidhik Se Samadhan’ (legal solutions) programme, jointly initiated by NALSA and the National Commission for Women.

Advocate Naveen Singh elaborated on various legal provisions under the Act. He also discussed the Domestic Violence Act, the Right to Information Act (RTI) 2005, Fundamental Rights, Consumer Protection Act, the Right to Education Act, and various women-centric laws, including the Women Helpline services.

Women and Child Development Department supervisor Seema shared insights on issues like dowry harassment, domestic violence, and eve-teasing, making women aware of their rights and legal remedies.

The awareness programme aimed to empower women with legal knowledge and encourage them to take necessary action against any form of harassment or discrimination at their workplace.
