Sources close to Ilma, who at present is at her hometown in Moradabad of Uttar Pradesh, confirmed that she had applied for leave extension. It was being said that she took leave to visit her hometown due to an alleged tussle with a sitting MLA. However, the Police Department had clarified that there was no need for speculation.

On November 16, the Himachal Pradesh Police had issued a press note stating that Ilma had been sanctioned 15-day earned leave from November 7 to 21 to attend to her ailing mother. Vinod Kumar, a 2007-batch Himachal Pradesh Police Service (HPPS) officer and Commandant of 8th Batallion of Home Guards in Chamba district, was deputed to oversee police operations in Baddi police district until Ilma resumes her duties after leave.
