Basantpur farmers leave for Gujarat to learn advanced natural farming

Eighteen farmers from the Basantpur block in Shimla district left for an exposure visit to Gujarat, organised by the Himachal Pradesh Agriculture Department, on Monday.

The objective of the visit is to acquaint farmers with advanced techniques and concepts of natural farming, enabling them to promote sustainable and profitable practices in their region. Project Director DC Kashyap flagged off the group from ISBT-Shimla.

During the tour, the farmers will visit major agricultural and research institutions, including the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal; Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute, Jaipur; Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ahmedabad; and Somnath Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Porbandar.

At these institutes, the farmers will receive practical training in natural farming, modern agricultural practices, soil conservation, animal husbandry management and the use of biological resources. The visit is seen as a key opportunity for skill enhancement and knowledge expansion for farmers in Himachal.

Besar Das Harnot, Chairman of the Farmers’ Advisory Committee, Basantpur, expressed gratitude to the government and the Agriculture Department for providing this opportunity. He said he hopes the farmers will learn from Gujarat’s natural farming model and successfully implement it back home.

Kashyap also shared detailed information on various farmer welfare schemes being run by the government.
