Bhavpreeta from Mandi has emerged victorious in the women’s category at the finals of the Shimla Hot Weather Table Tennis Tournament, defeating Chandigarh’s Anjali Sharma with scores of 11-6, 6-11, 11-9 and 11-8.

Over 180 players from across the state, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi competed in various categories at the tournament, which concluded yesterday. Yashpal Rana, former Senior Joint Secretary of the Table Tennis Federation of India, was the chief guest at the tournament, held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.

In the veterans’ category, Himanshu Sharma from BSNL, Shimla, emerged victorious in the 40 age group finals, beating Munish from PNB with scores of 11-9, 7-11, 11-8 and 11-9.

In the 50 age group (men’s) final, Jaswant Gangta from AGHP defeated Bhupendra Verma from Solan with a close score of 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 4-11 and 12-10. In the 50 age group (women’s) final, Rama from Chandigarh won against Savita, also from Chandigarh, with scores of 11-4, 11-4 and 11-5.

In the 60 veterans’ final, Jita Ukhal from Shimla defeated AK Modgil from Chandigarh with scores of 11-8, 11-9 and 11-7. In the Under-19 (boys’) final, Swajanya from Kangra edged out Shreyansh, also from Kangra, with a score of 11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 9-11 and 11-9.
