Bindal’s elder brother held on rape charge in Solan, BJP cries foul

The local police today arrested Ram Kumar Bindal, elder brother of BJP state president Rajeev Bindal and a practitioner of ayurvedic medicine, on the charge of allegedly raping a 25-year old woman on the pretext of medical examination at his clinic on the Mall Road on Wednesday last. The BJP alleged that the case was a “politically motivated mischievous act”.

SP, Solan, Gaurav Singh said that Ram Kumar Bindal was arrested after a 25-year-old woman lodged a complaint at women police station on October 8. The complainant alleged that she was suffering from a disease and went to Ram Kumar’s clinic near the old bus stand in Solan on October 7 for ayurvedic treatment.

The SP said, “The person at the clinic made her sit for examination. He first held her hand and then started pressing her veins. He then asked her about her sexual problems, following which she shared details with him and he assured her that she would be cured. He then started examining her. However, the accused allegedly raped her on the pretext of examining her. She pushed him and managed to come out of the clinic.”

He said, “A team of experts from the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Junga, inspected the crime scene on Thursday and collected evidence. The evidence collected during investigation and the analysis of technical inputs, besides the statement of the victim formed the basis of the arrest of Ram Kumar Bindal, a resident of Bindal Colony in Solan.”

The SP confirmed that the medical examination of the victim was conducted today. An FIR was registered under Sections 64 and 68 of the BNS for rape and sexual intercourse by a person in authority.

Meanwhile, Rajeev Bindal said, “It is extremely shocking for the family as my elder brother is 80 years old having grandchildren.” He added that the police and the judiciary should think whether an 80-year-old person was capable of such a deed.

He said that it was a new low while hinting at a conspiracy. He added that his elder brother was among the most reputed ayurvedic doctors (vaids) in the state linked to ‘sanatan samaj’ and having a good social standing.” The BJP president said that his brother had recently penned a 1,100-page book dedicated to society while describing him as a social activist.
