BJP doing politics even on issue like drugs: MLA

Congress legislator Sanjay Awasthi today hit out at the BJP for doing politics on a sensitive issue like drugs when during their own regime no effort was made to take strict action or make the law against drugs stringent.

In a statement issued here today, Awasthi said the BJP is not concerned about the youth who are falling prey to drugs but interest in scoring brownie points even if it is on an issue like drugs, which remains everyone’s concern. “Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur neither took any strict action against the drug mafia nor took any steps towards making a strict law. The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS Act) remained pending during the entire five-year tenure of the previous BJP government, while Congress government issued its notification within just four months after coming to power,” he said.

He said it is on the directions of CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu that the police have intensified the crackdown on drug mafia, busted their network and seized their illegal properties.
