BJP state co-incharge Sanhay Tandon on Friday accused the Congress of “murdering democracy” and preventing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from becoming India’s first Prime Minister.
Tandon spoke at the ‘Run for Unity’ organised to commemorate Patel’s birth anniversary. Others who participated included state organisation secretary Sidharthan, state general secretary Sanjeev Katwal, former state BJP president Suresh Chandel and former minister Suresh Bhardwaj.

“Congress has never given Sardar Patel his due and has continued ignoring his contribution to nation-building. A man of his stature was denied a memorial so that he is lost in the pages of history without anyone remembering him,” Tandon said.
He said it was PM Modi, as Gujarat Chief Minister, who dedicated the ‘Statue of Unity’ to recognise Patel’s role the freedom struggle.
