The meeting of the Kangra Zila Parishad turned stormy on Wednesday as BJP-led members launched a scathing attack on the local administration and officials of various departments over stalled development projects, non-functional solar lights and rising public grievances.

Presided over by Zila Parishad Chairman Ramesh Brar, the meeting saw intense criticism directed at the Public Works Department (PWD), electricity board and other government departments. Several elected members alleged gross negligence in carrying out essential works in their respective areas.

Ravindra Kumar, a member, criticised the authorities for not constructing the ‘’dharamshala’’ despite dismantling the existing one during the temple’s renovation. “Devotees have no place to stay now. A religious site must have basic accommodation,” he said. He also highlighted the delay in construction of a sports ground in Jheol, for which Rs 15 lakh was sanctioned in 2022.

He further flagged the issue of faulty solar lights in the villages and accused the Rural Development and Panchayat Department of ignoring repairs.

Vice-Chairperson Sneh Lata Parmar added that black cloths used to cover solar panels during the India-Pak tension still haven’t been removed.

The members also opposed the hike in HRTC bus fares and objected to Rs 100 per person fee being charged for the Manimahesh Yatra. They also expressed anguish over parking fee being charged in the DC office complex at the district headquarters.
