The BJP is running a campaign to weaken the position of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and his government on social media, said his Principal Adviser Naresh Chauhan here today. He added that this smear campaign wouldn’t succeed and the Congress government would continue to take decisions in the interest of people.

Chauhan said, “Old and misleading videos are being circulated on social media to tarnish the image of the Chief Minister and weaken the Congress government. I want to tell the BJP that such attempts will not succeed.” He added that the BJP was raising a hue and cry to get political mileage out of the issue of the death of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer with Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). “The Chief Minister did exactly what Vimal Negi’s family was demanding. An FIR was filed and the two officers name in the FIR were shifted. And then an inquiry by an Additional Chief Secretary-level officer into the incident was ordered. Besides, the police are investigating the case,” he added.

He said that Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur’s persistent demand for a CBI inquiry into the matter was politically motivated. “Jai Ram Thakur’s statements show that he has no trust in the police and other government agencies of the state. He should not forget that there’s a big question mark on the CBI investigation into the Gudiya rape and murder case,” he added.

Chauhan said, “The government is ensuring a fair probe into the case. The Opposition should avoid playing politics on such sensitive issues.”
