BJP spreading lies, redundant posts not to be abolished: CM

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that the state government was committed to providing employment to the youth. He accused the BJP of spreading lies about vacant posts. He added that the redundant posts lying vacant in government departments were not being abolished but would be re-designated (converted into other posts) on the need basis.

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur had alleged that the state government was doing away with the posts of junior assistant, Sub-Divisional Officers and Executive Engineers in the name of cost-cutting.

Sukhu, while talking to mediapersons here, said that information provided on the social media about the abolition of some posts in government departments was baseless and part of a false propaganda. He added that there were many such posts in various departments that had been non-functional for many years. “The designations of these posts are being changed considering the current requirements. The Finance Department had issued a letter to various departments on October 23 in this regard," he clarified.

He said that new posts were being created in place of vacancies that had no relevance. He added that the state government had created 2,511 posts in various departments and 16,592 posts were being filled.

The Chief Minister said that changing designation and creating new posts were part of a continuous department process. He added that the pending examination results of many post codes had been declared. Sukhu announced that the government would create many new need-based posts in future.
