In a bid to check its dwindling voter base, the BJP will soon embark on the digitisation of its enrolled members in the state.
The two-day state executive meeting of the party, which concluded at Paonta Sahib today, drew a roadmap for the exhaustive exercise which will begin from April 10. As many as 779 field functionaries, who have been designated as vistaraks, have been entrusted the task to cover 10 booths each within 15 days. All 7,790 booths in the state are slated to be covered by June 15.
Each functionary will have to travel to other Lok Sabha segments and scrutinise each and every enrolled member and verify his name and details like voter ID and enter it along with his picture into a designated web platform provided by the state BJP.
As a departure from the earlier move where such exercises were conducted by field functionaries by merely coordinating with a few local leaders, real-time scrutiny of each enrolled member would now be carried out.
The field functionaries from the Shimla Lok Sabha segment will visit Hamirpur from April 10 to April 25 while those from Hamirpur will visit Shimla from May 1 to May 15. The vistaraks from Mandi will visit Kangra from May 16 to May 31 and those from Kangra will scrutinise their members in Mandi from June 1 to June 15.
Sources in the BJP said this exercise was being carried out for the first time to find out why the party votebank was shrinking despite it registering more members.
Earlier, Chief Minister, Uttarakhand, Trivender Singh Rawat, who had specially arrived to address the newly inducted members of the state executive, elaborated on the basic tenets of the party and recalled the sacrifice made by Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee for the nation’s unity. He lauded the efforts of the Union Government in elevating the nation’s status at the global level.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said the government had launched welfare schemes for every section of society.
BJP state president Dr Rajiv Bindal announced the appointment of party chief spokesperson Randhir Sharma as the in-charge of the party social media and all media in-charges, besides announcing in-charges for various districts.
