Amid ongoing heavy rainfall in Mandi district, an unidentified decomposed body was discovered this morning near the Beas river close to Bindravani, around 4 km from the district headquarters.

The body was spotted at approximately 9.30 am by local residents, lodged between rocks along the swollen riverbank. They alerted Rajender Mohan, Ward Councillor of the Mandi Municipal Corporation, following which a team from the Sadar police station reached the site.

The police recovered the body after considerable effort. Officials suspect the corpse had been floating in the river for several days before being pushed to the shore by the strong current.

Cops said the body had been sent to the Zonal Hospital in Mandi for identification and a postmortem, adding that legal formalities were underway.

Authorities have appealed to the public to report any missing persons and to stay away from riverbanks during the current spell of heavy rain.
