Brief: Dharamsala ex-MLA Chander Verker passes away

Dharamsala: Chander Verker, former Congress MLA from Dharamsala, passed away at his resident here on Monday; he was elected legislator for one term in 1972. He was popularly known in Dharamsala as Prof Chander Verker, as he had taught in local Government College. Senior Congress leaders from Kangra, including former minister GS Bali, AICC secretary Sudhir Sharma and Kangra district president Ajay Mahajan, have expressed grief over the demise of Verker, who during his tenure as MLA was credited with bringing up War Memorial Park in Dharamsala. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
