Road sinks near US club in Shimla

Shimla: A portion of the road near Machhiwali Kothi area in US Club sank after a retaining wall collapsed making the road inaccessible for traffic. However, no loss of life occured in the incident. The landslide occured on Wednesday due to which a two-storey house and an electricity pole were damaged. The locals informed the police and district administration as well as the police about the incident who reached the spot to take stock of the situation. The administration officials said restoration work was being started. TNS

One held with 2.8 kg opium

Shimla: A Nepal native was arrested at Chirgaon in Shimla district with 2.89 kg opium having an estimated cost of around Rs 6 lakh, police said on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Amar Bahadur Budha, a resident of Nepal. The police team arrested the accused from Seema village and also seized the contraband. — TNS
