In a decisive crackdown, the Forest Department in Pangi's tribal subdivision seized an illegal crusher plant in Sechu Nala, levying a Rs 53,500 fine on seven individuals involved in unauthorised sand and gravel mining. Operating without permits since 2020, the crusher was managed by a contractor who failed to produce any legal documentation when questioned by a team led by Forest Block Officer Keval Krishan. The action follows complaints received by the Forest Department about the plant's illegal operations. Divisional Forest Officer DS Dadhwal confirmed that the complaints led to the creation of a specialised team to address unauthorised activities in Pangi Valley, ultimately resulting in the crusher's closure. Local residents have also expressed their support, emphasising the need to control unregulated mining in the area.
