Buruwa panchayat president Chura Mani Thakur said, “As per the directions of National Green Tribunal (NGT), trees of different species such walnut, deodar, khnoor and maple were planted. Office-bearers of the panchayat committee, mahila mandals and self-help groups participated in the plantation drive. The saplings were provided by the Forest Department.”

Tree plantation was important to protect the environment and maintain the beauty of the region, Thakur added.

He said the message of plantation should reach far and wide to ensure the participation of people in important afforestation programmes.

The NGT has given various directions and guidelines for the eco-fragile Rohtang region, which includes the tourist hotspot Solang Nala.

The High Court had also given directions related to vending and non-vending zones at Solang Special Area (Manali). Buruwa villagers are major tourism beneficiaries of the region, and to comply with the directions of the NGT, various eco-friendly steps are being taken by them.
