The mortal remains of PVC awardee Captain Vikram Batra’s mother Kamal Kant Batra, who passed away yesterday, were consigned to flames with full military honours here today. Capt Batra was awarded the Param Vir Chakra (PVC) for his gallantry in the Kargil War with Pakistan in 1999. Hundreds of local residents, including senior officials, were present to pay last tributes to her. The body was brought to the local crematorium in an army vehicle. Vishal Batra, Capt Batra’s brother, lit the funeral pyre.

Local MLA and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ashish Butail expressed his deep condolences on the demise of Kamal Kant Batra. Senior army officials from the Yol Camp and Dharamsala also called on the family to convey their condolences.
