A major scare gripped Jagatkhana in Nalagarh this afternoon when a Ford car bearing a Delhi registration number suddenly caught fire on the Sarsa river bridge around 1 pm. The driver escaped unhurt, thanks to the quick intervention of locals.

According to eyewitnesses, smoke began billowing from the car’s engine around 1.15 pm. Onlookers rushed to the spot, pulled the driver out, and attempted to douse the flames using a fire extinguisher fetched from a nearby petrol pump. However, the intensity of the fire was too strong, and within minutes the front portion of the vehicle was completely gutted.

The blaze created panic among commuters, with long queues of vehicles forming on both sides of the bridge as people watched the incident unfold. The Nalagarh fire department was informed and within minutes a team of five firemen led by Fire Officer Jaipal arrived with a water tender. After nearly an hour and a half of effort, the fire was finally brought under control.

Officials later said that timely action by the fire brigade averted a major accident, as the flames could have endangered other vehicles and residents in the vicinity. Nalagarh police also reached the spot and assessed the situation.
