Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsIn a significant step to fight against the rising drug menace, especially the growing use of synthetic drugs like “chitta” among youth, the School Management Committee (SMC) of Government Senior Secondary School, Mangla, has announced a cash reward of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 for individuals who provide information leading to the arrest of drug peddlers.
The decision was taken during an SMC meeting chaired by Committee president Sanjay. He emphasised the urgent need for collective action from both the community and authorities to protect the youth from the grip of dangerous narcotics. “The drug trade, particularly chitta, has spread in and around Chamba city. It is destroying young lives and tearing apart families,” he said.
Sanjay stressed that the problem cannot be solved by the police alone. “We need active support from the public. If anyone has information about chitta being sold in the area, they should inform the police or the SMC immediately. The name of the informant will be kept strictly confidential,” he assured.
The SMC president expressed grave concern over the increasing number of overdose cases, which have led to the deaths of several young people. He urged the community to treat this issue with the seriousness it deserves and not remain silent spectators.
Highlighting the role of youth in nation-building, he called upon young individuals to stay away from drugs and instead channel their energy into sports and other constructive activities. “Every youngster should move forward with a positive mindset to fulfill the expectations of society and contribute meaningfully to the country,” he said.
The initiative marks a grassroots-level effort to confront the drug problem head-on and signals a growing awareness in local communities about the importance of safeguarding future generations. The police have pledged swift action on any tip-offs and the SMC’s support reflects a broader community resolve to end the narcotics trade in the region.
