Centre committed to providing employment to youth: Minister

Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, BL Verma today said the Modi-led Central Government was committed to providing employment to the educated youth.

Verma was the chief guest at the employment fair organised at the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) here today. Shimla Lok Sabha Suresh Kashyap was also present at the programme. Appointment letters were handed over by the Chief Postmaster General to 25 youth who have been given employment in various departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Verma said that till now 16 employment fairs have been organised at the national level. “National fairs have been organised at 40 places across the country and employment letters have been distributed to more than 51,000 youth. This reflects the commitment of the Central Government to providing employment to the educated youth,” he said.

“The Central Government is also working to provide employment in the private sector and providing facilities for setting up of industries, big and small so as to create maximum self-employment opportunities,” he stated.

He said that the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana has already provided employment training to millions of youth. The Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Srijan Karyakram has also provided self-employment opportunities to millions. “In 2014, there were approximately 350 start-ups, but today this number has grown to over 1,60,000,” he said.
