Centre will provide world-class health facilities in AIIMS: Nadda

National BJP president and Union Health Minister JP Nadda today said that the Central Government was committed to providing world-class health facilities in All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across the country.

Nadda, while addressing a function on the third Foundation Day of AIIMS-Bilaspur, said that of the 23 AIIMS institutions operational in India at present, 13 were established during his tenure as Union Health Minister. He took pride in the establishment of AIIMS in Bilaspur in record three years and described it as the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream.

He underscored the rapid progress made by AIIMS-Bilaspur where eight successful kidney transplants had been performed and a regional virology research laboratory had been established. He detailed the institution’s advanced medical facilities, including a 750-bed Indoor Patient Department, 40 Outdoor Patient Departments and 24x7 emergency services and trauma care. He added that the hospital also offered cutting-edge diagnostics such as MRI, CT, PET scans and specialised care in NICU, PICU, critical care, dialysis and renal transplantation.

Nadda announced the completion of a 250-bed night shelter home and plans for another similar facility with philanthropic support. He said that Rs 5 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of an indoor stadium and a Kendriya Vidyalaya and a DAV school on the AIIMS premises.

He said that Rs 123 crore had been sanctioned for Himachal Pradesh under the Implementation Plan of 2025-26, and Rs 73.13 crore of it had been allocated to maternal and child health wings for Hamirpur, Nahan, Bilaspur, Nurpur, Mandi and Una. He added that Rs 18 crore had been earmarked for medical equipment in the functional maternal-child wings, while Rs 32 crore would be utilised under the Lakshya scheme to upgrade labour rooms.

Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil lauded the transformative contribution of AIIMS-Bilaspur to Himachal Pradesh’s healthcare system. He said that any medical institute’s true strength could be judged from the commitment of its doctors, faculty and staff rather than its infrastructure alone. He expressed gratitude to Nadda and acknowledged the Central Government’s consistent support in improving medical infrastructure and services in Himachal.

Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur, Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan, AIIMS-Bilaspur Chairperson Prof Dr Narendra Kumar Arora, Executive Director Lt Gen Daljit Singh were also present on the occasion. Later, Nadda felicitated doctors and other staff members for their outstanding services.
