Chamba, December 27

The Chamba Jan Hit Sangathan has urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to provide free electricity and water to people. Sangathan convener Shadi Lal Sharma and president Kishor Sharma said the district was a hub of hydroelectricity generation.

The sangathan office-bearers said the district was contributing crores of rupees per annum by commissioning four hydropower projects – Chamera-I, II, III and Baira-Siul power projects – and producing around 1,269 MW power to the national pool annually. But despite this, Chamba was not getting its share, they contended.

They also said more big hydropower projects such as Bajoli-Holi, Kuther and Pangi were likely to come up that would provide additional revenue to the state exchequer.
