The higher hills of Chamba district, including Bharmour and Pangi tribal areas, and the adjoining Pir Panjal mountain ranges experienced heavy snowfall while the lower areas witnessed gale accompanied by a thunderstorm this afternoon.

The reports stated that the entire district was shivering in intense icy cold winds, and the temperature plummeted to one degree Celsius.

Consequently, life was disrupted in the habitations of higher regions as people faced various problems such as disruption in transport services, water and power supply, the reports added.

Meanwhile, an official report said that heavy snowfall and rain since December 12, public and private property in the district have suffered losses to the tune of more than Rs98 crore. However, essential services were being restored.
