Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal today said the diversity in traditional folk song and dance enriches the folk art and culture of Chamba district.

As the chief guest of the closing ceremony of the district-level folk dance competition held at the Akhand Chandi Palace Darbar Hall under the aegis of the Language and Culture Department, the District Magistrate said Chamba district has a glorious history. He urged local artistes, lyricists and writers to make the collection of traditional folk songs available to the District Language Officer.

Addressing cultural groups participating in the competition, the Deputy Commissioner extended his best wishes to them and emphasised the importance of preserving traditional folk culture so that future generations remain well aware of this invaluable heritage.

During the event, cultural groups from various sub-districts participated. Assistant Information Officer Sanjay Chauhan, musician Piyush Raj and music presenter Aparna Wali were jury members.

The cultural group Saraswati Kala Sangam secured the first position, Saraswati Music Academy, Chamba, stood second and Gaddi Cultural Group, Runu Koti, secured the third position. The winners of the competition were honoured with trophies and certificates. The Shiv Shakti Art Forum, Bhagai Garh, and Chamunda Cultural Group, Devi Kothi, were awarded consolation prizes.
