The silt flushing operation of the National Hydro Power Corporation’s Chamera-II hydropower project at Bagga is set to take place from 11 pm on July 22 to 6 pm on July 23, the General Manager of the Chamera-II Power Station has said.

The flushing will be carried out depending on the additional inflow of water into the reservoir during this period. During the operation, gates of the Chamera-II Dam at Bagga will be gradually opened to release water until the river reaches its free flow stage.

As a result, a sudden rise in water level is expected in the Ravi, downstream of the dam.

The power station has initiated multiple precautionary measures for residents living in low-lying areas near the river.

Public announcements will be made from the Chamera-II to the Chamera-I reservoir areas using vehicles.

Additionally, Gram Panchayat heads will be kept informed through WhatsApp messages and SMS alerts to ensure wider awareness.

The General Manager of Chamera-II has urged residents of downstream areas to exercise caution and avoid going near riverbanks. Residents have also been asked to keep belongings and livestock away from the river between flushing operations.
